Planning a campervan holiday in Ireland for 2027? Starting from Dublin gives you access to mountain scenery, Atlantic coastal roads, historic towns and some of Ireland’s best-known music festivals. This guide explains how to plan a realistic route, choose the right campervan and prepare for a comfortable journey.

Retro Camper Hire offers a campervan fleet with different sleeping capacities. Our campervans have different sleeping capacities, seat-belt arrangements and facilities. Check the current specifications of each Retro Camper Hire vehicle before booking. Review each vehicle’s current specification, sleeping layout and availability before reserving; facilities differ between vehicles.

Three Ireland road-trip ideas from Dublin

1. Wicklow and Ireland’s Ancient East: three to five nights

Start with the Wicklow Mountains, Glendalough and the coastal scenery of the southeast. This is a manageable choice for a shorter trip. Allow for winding roads and check overnight parking or campsite rules ahead of time.

2. Galway, Connemara and the west: five to seven nights

Head west for Galway, Connemara’s mountain landscapes and coastal villages. Leave room in your itinerary for short walks, weather changes and spontaneous stops. Driving times can be longer than map distances suggest.

3. Wild Atlantic Way highlights: seven nights or longer

For a longer holiday, consider sections of the Clare, Kerry and Cork coast rather than attempting the entire Wild Atlantic Way in one week. Build in rest days, particularly when travelling with children.

Campervan hire for Irish festivals in 2027

New: explore our 2027 Ireland events calendar for 46 dated festival, concert and sporting-event listings, public holidays, official source links and a separate list of events awaiting confirmed dates.

Events such as Electric Picnic, Sea Sessions, Longitude and other Irish music festivals attract accommodation demand. Festival dates, campervan admission rules and vehicle-pass availability can change each year. Always confirm the organiser’s official 2027 details before paying for festival tickets or making travel arrangements. Hiring a campervan does not automatically include a festival campervan pitch, parking permit or event ticket.

If you plan to attend a festival, check that your selected vehicle meets the organiser’s requirements and reserve authorised campervan accommodation separately where necessary. Explore Retro Camper Hire availability.

What should you budget for?

Your final hire price depends on vehicle, dates, duration and selected extras. Allow for campsite fees, fuel, tolls and optional equipment. At Retro Camper Hire, bedding is an optional extra charged at €25 per person, and a small gas cylinder is an optional extra at €90. The standard refundable security deposit is €2,000, subject to the rental agreement. Confirm the current terms and complete quote before booking.

Practical tips before you travel

  • Plan legal overnight stops using established campsites or locations that permit campervans.
  • Check vehicle dimensions before using narrow rural roads or height-restricted car parks.
  • Allow extra driving time, especially along the west coast.
  • Review driver eligibility, licence requirements and insurance terms before making payment.
  • Pack for variable Irish weather, even in summer.
