Full rental conditions — online reference for 2026–2027
Important: These sections bring the subjects of our former rental document directly onto this webpage, rewritten for clarity. Older charges, deposit figures and cancellation provisions are not automatically applicable to 2026–2027 bookings. Please review the exact conditions presented with your booking.
1. Rental agreement
The hire agreement consists of the confirmed booking details, vehicle handover documentation, these published conditions and any applicable insurance schedule. The named hirer and authorised drivers must read and comply with the applicable documents. Written booking-specific conditions take precedence where they expressly vary a general term.
2. Prices, inclusions and payment
Rental charges are quoted in euro and may include VAT, mileage, a kitchen kit, eligible named-driver insurance and mechanical roadside assistance, subject to the booking confirmation. Optional equipment, extra drivers and special arrangements may incur additional charges. Retro Camper Hire requires 100% of the hire price upfront. The €1,000 security deposit is separate and payable at collection.
Accepted payment methods and processing charges
We accept cash, Revolut transfers, credit cards and debit cards. No additional payment-processing fee applies to cash, Revolut transfers or standard consumer credit and debit cards. Where a particular payment instrument is legally eligible for a surcharge, any charge will be disclosed before payment, will not exceed the permitted processing cost and will not be imposed retrospectively or deducted unexpectedly from a security deposit.
3. Hire period and extensions
The booking specifies the start and end of the hire. Minimum stays vary by date, season and event. Extensions require advance written approval, availability and payment of the additional hire charge.
4. Driver eligibility and identification
Drivers must hold a full manual licence valid for the vehicle category, ordinarily held for at least 24 months. An automatic-only licence is insufficient. All drivers must be aged between 25 and 70 years at the commencement of hire. Drivers under 25 or over 70 are not eligible to hire or drive our vehicles. All drivers remain subject to insurer approval. Every authorised driver must be declared, approved and present the required original licence, photo identification and any requested address or driving-history evidence. Driving endorsements, claims and disqualifications must be disclosed truthfully. No unapproved person may drive.
5. Insurance and personal cover
Vehicle and third-party cover applies only within the insurer's terms to approved drivers. Insurance does not replace personal travel insurance or cover personal possessions. The applicable excess, exclusions and any optional reduction product must be confirmed before collection.
6. Security deposit and deductions
The security deposit is €1,000, separate from the hire price and payable at collection. The acceptable payment method and refund arrangements are set out in the current booking and handover instructions. It may secure documented damage, missing equipment, fuel, cleaning, penalties and other contractually recoverable charges. Any balance due is returned after inspection and settlement of valid deductions; unresolved insurance claims may require further assessment. Confirm any applicable payment fees before paying for your hire.
7. Damage, exclusions and optional protection
The hirer must take reasonable care of the vehicle. Damage resulting from prohibited use, negligence, wrong fuel, roof or underside impact, lost keys, glass, tyres, mirrors, theft or unapproved drivers may fall outside standard protection. Optional collision-damage or windscreen/tyre cover only applies when expressly purchased and confirmed, subject to its limits and exclusions.
8. Collection, handover and return
Standard collection is between 14:00 and 16:00, unless agreed otherwise. Return your camper and complete self-check-out before 12 noon on your return day. We explain the self-check-out process when you arrive at our depot. Inspect and record any existing damage at collection. Return the campervan with all equipment, the agreed fuel level, emptied toilet and waste tanks where fitted, and a reasonably clean interior. Late return, exceptional cleaning, refuelling or recovery charges may apply where disclosed and lawful.
9. Additional equipment
Bedding, towels, camping furniture, child seats, GPS, gas and connectivity services may be offered as paid extras. Availability and prices must be confirmed when booking.
10. Travel and permitted use
Travel is restricted to the territories expressly authorised in your booking and insurance documents. Do not use the campervan for racing, towing without permission, carrying paying passengers, dangerous goods, unlawful activity, off-road travel or travel into unsafe or prohibited areas. Observe seat-belt capacity, road rules, vehicle dimensions and weight limits.
11. Cancellations, amendments and substitutions
Cancellation within 30 days of collection is non-refundable under our cancellation policy, without affecting statutory rights. For cancellation with at least 30 days’ notice, confirm the applicable refund and any charges in writing before booking. Contact info@retrocamperhire.ie with your booking reference to request cancellation. Any agreed exception must be confirmed in writing. Requests to change dates, vehicle or collection location require written approval. If a booked vehicle becomes unavailable, Retro Camper Hire may propose a suitable alternative or the remedies required under the applicable agreement and consumer law.
12. Breakdowns and onboard equipment
Mechanical roadside assistance is available under the applicable service arrangements. Report any defect promptly using the assistance details supplied at handover. Do not authorise substantial repairs without approval, except where necessary for immediate safety. Charges caused by incorrect operation, avoidable flat batteries or wrong fuel may be recoverable. Any disruption or refund claim will be assessed against the agreement and applicable consumer rights.
13. Accidents, theft and insurance claims
Immediately ensure safety, seek emergency help where needed, notify Retro Camper Hire promptly and provide incident details, photographs, witness and third-party information. Follow police reporting requirements and do not admit liability or settle a third-party claim without insurer approval. Cooperate reasonably with claims handling.
14. Traffic offences, smoking and pets
Drivers are responsible for fines and penalties incurred during the hire and any properly disclosed administration charges. Smoking is prohibited inside vehicles. Dogs or other pets require prior written permission and any applicable fee; customers are responsible for damage or exceptional cleaning attributable to pets.
15. Complaints and consumer rights
Report problems promptly during the hire so they can be investigated and remedied. Submit unresolved complaints to info@retrocamperhire.ie, identifying your booking and the issue. Nothing on this page excludes mandatory consumer protections or rights that cannot lawfully be restricted.
